Hay fever is the most common allergic condition in Ireland, especially during the late spring / early summer period.
Scientifically, hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen that affects the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes and air passages. Hay fever tends to start in the early teen years, the very young are usually not affected. The group with the highest rate of occurrence are people under 24 years of age.
There are three types of pollen;
1. Grass
2. Tree
3. Weed
After acknowledging there are three different types of pollen, it is obvious that there are separate hay fever seasons;
Feb to May: Tree Pollen
Late Spring to Summer: Tree & Grass Pollen
Autumn: Weed Pollen
